On Thursday, CF Monterrey will head to TQL Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati in the opening match of the Concacaf Champions Cup. Furthermore, it marks Brandon Vazquez’s return to his former club.
Vazquez will be up against some teammates he knows well in this Round of 16 tie, including Argentine player Lucho Acosta. The 29-year-old spoke about facing his former teammate ahead of the first leg.
“It’s going to be a very tough team, it’s going to be a very tough match, but we have our fans in our stadium,” Acosta told Agencia EFE (h/t TUDN). “We’ll try to get the result, to get a goal difference, to not get scored on at home. It’s going to be nice to face Brandon, I hope he behaves well. We have to think quickly in that match.”
The midfielder, named the MLS MVP last season, mentioned that his team is feeling upbeat and adjusting well to the new signings following a postseason characterized by numerous changes.
Cincinnati is coming off a 2-1 victory on Saturday over the Chicago Fire, so they’re coming into the matchup riding positive momentum. As for Monterrey, they also won this weekend, securing a 3-0 win over Pumas UNAM.
