On Tuesday, Jorge Rodríguez made his way from Estudiantes de La Plata to Monterrey. The arrival of the midfielder drew significant attention from the local media, eager to capture his initial reactions before he officially joined the Rayados squad.

Reporters asked the 28-year-old about the pressure of joining a club aspiring to win the league title after a disappointing Liguilla during the 2023 Apertura season.

“I’m thrilled and extremely happy,” Rodríguez told reporters (h/t TUDN). “Numerous individuals from the club reached out to me, and I have several friends who have passed through this club. I’m genuinely overjoyed…

“Yes, the team aims to excel in all competitions and emerge as the top contenders. As it is a very, very big club, my sincere intention is to contribute and ensure optimal performance for the group.”

How did the Jorge Rodríguez transfer to Rayados happen?

Monterrey actively sought to strengthen their midfield in the winter transfer window, making Rodrigo Villagra their top choice. Unfortunately, an agreement with Club Atlético Talleres couldn’t be reached, and the deal fell through for Rayados.

As a result, the Mexican side quickly pivoted to Plan B and landed Rodríguez from Estudiantes. During his time with the Argentine side, the midfielder made 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering four assists. Additionally, he won the Copa Argentina in 2023.
