Last month, The Athletic, citing sources, reported the agreement between Monterrey and FC Cincinnati for Brandon Vazquez. The transfer fee is around $7.5 million, with an additional $1 million possible in add-ons and a sell-on clause.
Now that Cincinnati’s 2024 season is about to start, the reality of not having Vazquez will soon set in. Ahead of the MLS club’s upcoming campaign, Matt Miazga spoke with 90min’s Lizzy Becherano about the 25-year-old’s departure.
“So I’m disappointed, the fact that I’m not going to play with him and see him every day, but I’m extremely happy for him because it’s a great opportunity,” Miazga said.
“He’s going to one of the biggest clubs in Mexico. He’s obviously getting a really good deal, so I’m really happy for him and his family, and I’m going to be in touch with him all the time.”

Miazga then shifted his comments to what the squad will miss most about the Mexican-American striker. Vazquez made 127 appearances for Cincinnati across all competitions and scored 43 goals while registering 15 assists. As a result, it’s a good amount of offense they’ll need to replace.
“You miss him because he’s a great player,” Miazga added. “He does a lot of work for our team. He obviously scores a lot of goals, but he also creates a lot and does a lot of dirty work that people don’t see.
“So he was really important for us, and it’s going to be tough to replace him, but I’m sure that the club is going to do their due diligence and get something done.”
