CF Monterrey is improving their squad with the additions of Jorge Rodríguez and Brandon Vazquez. However, Rayados aren’t stopping there, as the latest player on their radar is Mexican defender Gerardo Arteaga.
Telediario reported on Thursday, citing a source, that Arteaga is a real option, and negotiations are progressing favorably. Furthermore, the information reveals that the player is willing to join Monterrey. Therefore, work is underway to secure the player from Belgium’s Genk.
Why is Monterrey pursuing Gerardo Arteaga?
One of the reasons that Rayados is pursuing Arteaga is to provide competition for Jesús Gallardo. Should Monterrey recruit a player to compete with Gallardo for the starting position, it would enhance the team’s overall performance and bolster squad depth.
This potential addition is crucial as the team prepares for the 2024 Clausura tournament and the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Arteaga debuted with Santos Laguna in 2020, transitioning from Mexican football to Genk in Belgium. Currently, he has played 13 out of 20 possible matches in the Jupiler Pro League, accumulating 1035 minutes on the field.
