This week, CF Monterrey announced the arrival of striker Brandon Vazquez from FC Cincinnati. The Mexican-American goal scorer will be wearing No. 23 once he hits the pitch, and Monterrey manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz revealed that Vazquez had been on their radar for a while.
Furthermore, he notes the impression Vazquez left on him, scoring a hat-trick and displaying his offensive prowess during the Leagues Cup 2023 match against CD Guadalajara.
“We were impressed with Brandon’s hat-trick against Chivas in Leagues Cup [last year] and his consistent performance as a critical player for Cincinnati,” Ortiz told TUDN.
“We had already seen that. If we talked about the name at that time, it could harm negotiations… Hopefully, he can adapt quickly and understand what I want as a team, and we can soon see him on the field.”
Brandon Vazquez prepared to replace Rogelio Funes Mori
Whether it’s fair or not, Vazquez will be one of the strikers who will need to replace the goal-scoring production left behind with the departure of Rogelio Funes Mori to Pumas UNAM. However, it’s a challenge he’s ready to accept.
“I am very happy to be here, very excited about this new challenge, and very enthusiastic about arriving here to make history,” Vazquez said. “I know it’s very big shoes to fill. It’s a huge achievement for me—an accomplishment, a dream, and to make history just like Funes Mori did.”
