A few days ago, a report revealed that CF Monterrey was one of the clubs offered an opportunity to sign outgoing Athletic Club captain Iker Muniain. The 31-year-old will leave the Spanish side as a free agent in late June.

Even though clubs like Rayados, Club América, and FC Juárez have responded positively to the interest in signing him, they might not be the priority.

Diario AS reports that Muniain prioritizes signing with River Plate above any other destination, regardless of what they offer him economically or even in terms of a sporting project.

The Argentine club are aware of the Athletic Clun standout’s interest in playing with the Argentine giants. Furthermore, the South American side does not rule out his possible signing at all, although it is too early to start operations.

River Plate must overcome the handicap of the quota of foreign players allowed. For now, Los Millonario have not made a move for Muniain and it’s premature due to pending planning for the next season.

“It’s too early to think about that, but they will want him,” a River Plate source told AS. Salary would not be an issue with the highest earners in the squad earn around €1.5 million annually, but for the La Txantrea native, salary is the least important thing.
