Maxi Meza recently had his name in the rumor mill as CF Monterrey continues to analyze who’s coming and going in the squad ahead of the 2024 Clausura season.

Argentine side Boca Juniors reportedly set their sights on the 31-year-old, who recently extended his contract with Rayados. However, don’t expect the winger to head to Buenos Aires to play in La Bombonera.

No Boca Juniors for Maxi Meza?

TyC Sports’ Germán García Grova reported on Tuesday that newly elected Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme did call Meza to help reinforce the Argentine giants’ squad for next season.

Regardless, those talks came before Meza extended his contract with Rayados. Before inking a new deal, his contract was set to expire after the 2023 Apertura season. Grova adds that there have been no contacts between Boca Juniors and Meza since extending his contract.

As a result, it doesn’t appear that there will be a return to Argentina. Nonetheless, any Argentine side could have Meza if they want him. However, they’d need to pay the release clause, which was lowered from $17 million to $4 million.
