CF Monterrey advanced to the Concacaf Champions Cup after their 7-1 aggregate win over Comunicaciones FC. Rayados closed out the two-leg matchup with a 3-0 win on Thursday and now look to the Round of 16.
It’s possible that Brandon Vazquez might return to Cincinnati within the next couple of weeks. If the MLS team defeats Cavalier SC in their Round One match, it paves the way for a showdown between Monterrey and FC Cincinnati.
The first leg between Cavalier and Cincinnati is on Thursday, with the second leg on February 28. The 25-year-old spoke with reporters and revealed what it would mean to face his former club.
“Sure, Cincinnati has a great team, there’s always a good atmosphere in the stadium,” Vazquez said postgame (h/t Once Diario). “It would be a fun challenge to play against the friends I made there, and winning against them would be even better. It would be nice.”
Vazquez made 127 appearances in all competitions for Cincinnati while scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists. With Rayados, the Mexican-American is off to an excellent start, netting four goals in six appearances.
