CF Monterrey secured a 3-0 win over Guatemalan side Comunicaciones FC on Thursday at Estadio BBVA. Rayados won the two-leg matchup 7-1 and now advance to the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.

Brandon Vazquez appeared on the scoresheet for the third goal in the second leg. The Mexican-American returned to Monterrey after leaving last week to be there for the birth of his son. As a result, he missed the 3-2 win last Saturday over Club Pachuca.

Nonetheless, he’s back this week and came off the bench to play 24 minutes. In his postgame scrum with reporters, Vazquez summed up his week.

“It has been, as you said, a great week,” Vazquez told reporters. “This is being able to witness the birth of my son, return and be with the group again, and end it with a goal. It’s a very special week, and I’m very happy.”

Vazquez could be returning to FC Cincinnati in a couple of weeks. If the MLS side defeats Cavalier SC in their Round One matchup, it sets up for a Round of 16 clash between Monterrey and Cincinnati.
