All eyes are on CF Monterrey and when new arrival Sergio Canales will see action. While there was speculation the 32-year-old would appear in Rayados’ Leagues Cup 2023 contest against Seattle Sounders, that isn’t the case.

Despite Canales’ debut needing to wait, German Berterame notes what he expects from the Spanish international. The former Real Betis star will have the No. 10, so the attack will run through him.

“Happy with a player as experienced as him,” Berterame told reporters (h/t Telediario). “I’m young and I’m going to learn a lot from him, enjoy him a lot and nothing, wanting him to play.

“We really enjoy that [Canales] is with us; we receive him in the best way. We know what he can give. We are happy with him; we hope he gets ready as quickly as possible to count on him.”

Is German Berterame beginning a scoring hot streak?

Before the start of Leagues Cup, Berterame scored in Monterrey’s 3-0 win over Mazatlán on July 14. Afterward, the Argentine followed up that performance with a brace in Rayados’ 3-0 win over Real Salt Lake Wednesday.

The 24 -year-old believes that these last two contests are a confidence booster for him.

“The goal with Mazatlán was a relief and the other day, I felt free and when the goals came, I still have the confidence to continue and go for more,” Berterame continued.

If Monterrey wants to win Leagues Cup and LIGA MX’s Apertura 2023 season, they could use a confident Berterame. With Canales in the mix, the striker will likely have many chances to score goals.
