Leagues Cup 2024 groups were unveiled on Wednesday, revealing an intriguing placement for CF Monterrey in this upcoming summer tournament.

Rayados will be in the West 1 group, featuring Pumas UNAM and Austin FC. The competition will allow Monterrey to face their former striker, Rogelio Funes Mori, when they face Pumas. As for the MLS side, the Liga MX club will play in Texas again, a stronghold area for the club.

It will be interesting to see how Monterrey approaches this tournament. Should they already have a spot for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, then Rayados might not go full force to win the competition.

However, if they need to win the League Cup to qualify for the Champions Cup, their approach to the tournament will likely change. Many supporters will hope that this year’s competition treats the squad better from a health perspective.

Last year, Monterrey lost Germán Berterame and Rodrigo Aguirre. Nonetheless, the tournament did provide exciting moments, like comeback wins over the Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles Football Club. Eventually, a short-handed Rayados team fell to Nashville SC in the semifinals.

This edition will unfold from July 26 to August 25, with domestic league competitions paused as matches are held. All games will be available via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, with select matches on TelevisaUnivision, TV Azteca, FOX Sports (FS1), TSN, and RDS.
