CF Monterrey will play against Inter Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup after the Mexican side eliminated FC Cincinnati 3-1 on aggregate.
On Thursday, manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz spoke to the media about the heavyweight clash. He noted that the matchup that will see them face Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba is a special matchup for the club.
“I believe that facing Inter Miami is very important for our institution, as for me, the best player in the world plays for that team,” Ortiz stated in a press conference (h/t TUDN).
“The day we step foot in Miami, myself and my players will want to win. Wherever we play, we will want to win. I’m glad we are going to face him, but I’m worried about all of Miami, not just Messi.”
Monterrey will face Miami for the first leg on April 3rd at Chase Stadium in South Florida. The matchup will shift to Mexico for the second leg on April 10th at Estadio BBVA.
