CF Monterrey will again participate in the Concacaf Champions Cup as the federation rebrands the international competition.
Rayados will open up in Round One against Guatemalan side Comunicaciones FC; the Liga MX side is one of the favorites in the tournament, considering the Mexican club has won the competition on multiple occasions.
The first leg will be between Feb. 6 and 15, and the return leg will be between Feb. 20 and 29. As a result, the early start to 2024 will be filled with pressure, and Rayados will need to hit the ground running.
Should Monterrey move past Comunicaciones and into the round of 16, the likely opponent will be FC Cincinnati. The MLS side will be the favorite to advance in their matchup against Jamaican club Cavalier SC.
If it’s an MLS vs. Liga MX matchup in the round of 16, both teams would be willing to do everything to win since whoever advances could likely meet Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in the quarterfinals.
Monterrey must improve their squad after a disappointing Liguilla exit in the quarterfinals against Atletico San Luis.
