CF Monterrey had a rebound performance with a 3-1 win over Atlético de San Luis on Saturday night at Estadio BBVA. Rayados needed the three points after drawing against Querétaro FC during the week.
Brandon Vázquez opened the scoring for Monterrey with a fantastic header in the 15th minute. After grabbing positive momentum, Fernando Ortiz and his squad conceded the game-tying goal to Mateo Klimowicz.
Nonetheless, Vázquez took a pass from Jorge Rodríguez to score his first-half brace. After the contest, Ortiz spoke with reporters and praised the performances of the two new arrivals.
“I liked it,” Ortiz said (h/t Diario AS). “Out of nine points, we got seven, and we’re right at the top where we want to be and not move from there. The adaptation of Jorge (Rodríguez) and Brandon (Vázquez) was very good.
“Even though the two didn’t have the worst season, I think they did an exceptional job in body, preparation, and physical aspects. Today, they endured the strain, endured three matches, and Brandon endured 90 minutes, and they did it very well.”
Sergio Canales added the third goal with a superb strike from outside the box, which sent the home supporters happy.
