The striker position for CF Monterrey should be a significant concern. Germán Berterame’s injury during Leagues Cup 2023 was a major blow to Rayados’ attack. However, the latest news regarding Rodrigo Aguirre might leave the squad thin at the striker position.
Aguirre also picked up an injury during the summer tournament against Real Salt Lake. The Uruguayan returned to training as he attempted to reintegrate himself into the squad. Nonetheless, that didn’t last long.
Ten minutes into the training session, the 28-year-old had to leave. Felipe Galindo reports that Aguirre aggravated the soleus injury, causing him to leave the pitch to go to the gym and later finish therapy.
Even though Aguirre couldn’t finish the training session, the striker will attempt again to train and be fit enough to at least be an option off the bench ahead of the contest against Cruz Azul on Sunday at the Estadio BBVA.
With Berterame sidelined for the foreseeable future and Aguirre battling health issues, Rayados currently count on Rogelio Funes Mori and Ali Avila. The summer transfer window remains open for Monterrey to improve the position, or they’ll roll with what they’ve got on the depth chart.
