On Tuesday night, CF Monterrey kicked off their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup with a resounding 4-1 victory against Comunicaciones FC at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores.

Germán Berterame was the star for Rayados in the win. The 25-year-old opened the scoring on a header off a cross from Stefan Medina. Berterame then assisted in Arturo González’s goal that gave Monterrey a 2-1 lead.

Berterame spoke postgame and revealed the joy the squad has to come away with the road win.

“The truth is that we are delighted,” Berterame told the Concacaf Champions Cup platform. “It’s a joy for us and for all the people who are there in Monterrey, those who came. The truth is that it was something beautiful. Hopefully, they enjoyed it as much as we did.”

Afterward, the Argentine highlighted what he believes allowed the squad to come away with the convincing win. He notes that it wasn’t skill-related but more of a mental mindset.

“We always have the hunger to win, to want to win, to demonstrate what we are capable of,” Berterame added. And I believe we hope to continue on that path, which is what the coach wants and all the players want.”

The return leg will occur on Thursday at Estadio BBVA, where Rayados are expected to secure their spot in the Round of 16.
