Leagues Cup 2023 is in its semifinal stages, with CF Monterrey, Inter Miami, Nashville SC, and Philadelphia being the only four teams left standing. For Rayados, one of the unsung heroes of the tournament is Maximiliano Meza.

Meza scored the lone goal in the 1-0 Round of 32 contest win against Portland Timbers. However, the Argentine’s importance comes away from the goal and assist stat.

OptaJorge pointed out on Twitter that among the players still in contention in Leagues Cup, Meza currently leads the tournament in total duels (81), attempted dribbles (27), and completed dribbles (11, tied with Lionel Messi and Joao Rojas).

After the injury to Germán Berterame, Rayados needs other players to elevate their game, and Meza has answered the call. The Mexican club will need the 30-year-old to again perform at this level against Nashville.

Monterrey is the last Liga MX side standing and is one match away from possibly facing Messi and Co., which is likely the dream final for both leagues.
