A transfer conflict appears to be brewing with CF Monterrey and Rogelio Funes Mori. Rayados’ sporting president José ‘Tato’ Noriega spoke with Multimedios on Friday and revealed the latest regarding the Argentine striker.

Felipe Galindo reported earlier this month that an intermediary agent, which Grêmio authorized, is inquiring about the situation regarding Funes Mori. Monterrey and its board are also actively conversing with the representative and the player.

Tato Noriega confirms Grêmio’s interest in Rogelio Funes Mori

Monterrey’s club chief might have used the media to pressure Funes Mori to accept the proposal from the Brazilian side. The 32-year-old will become a free agent in June 2024, and Rayados likely wants to recoup whatever sum they can.

“Well, look, I am even going to give you a scoop here in front of the camera,” Noriega told the media outlet. “I recently talked with Rogelio, and he has told us he does not wish to take the Grêmio option. So, although there is a formal proposal from Grêmio and we have accepted it, Rogelio has decided not to take it, so Grêmio will not be a destination for Rogelio. However, a couple of other opportunities could be attractive for him.

“So, Rogelio is a significant player for the club; he is a historic member of our team, and therefore, he has every right to analyze and decide calmly. Then we will see what happens after that decision, once the tournament starts, and how we are formed. But for now, we are analyzing the possibilities he has come up with, and that is where we are.”
