CF Monterrey wants to revamp their midfield this winter transfer window with the addition of a defensive midfielder. Rayados sports president José Antonio Noriega revealed their No. 1 target: Club Atlético Talleres star Rodrigo Villagra.

Regarding the possible first reinforcement, Noriega noted that the 22-year-old was always the first option. For now, Villagra is the one chosen to reinforce that position.

“It is going very well; it is very advanced; it is a very public issue,” Noriega said (h/t Telediario). “There is a very open negotiation, and from this side of the negotiation, it is very viable that it will happen, hopefully soon. He is a player who has this combination of what I have been talking about in this conversation: quality and competitiveness. That is why he was chosen.

“He has a lot of pressure, with or without the ball, and we are hopeful that soon it will be closed and we can announce it officially. He was always the first option; when we thought about which was the first position to reinforce, that was always the first one.”

Will Rayados bring in any other new players?

Noriega clearly and concisely stated that they must reinforce other positions, including a striker. Additionally, they chose to keep the option private due to the ongoing reinforcement strategy, which they may finalize in the next few days.

“The truth is that we have been asked for some of our strikers; there have been formal offers, so we are prepared to replace some of them who must leave the institution,” Noriega added.

“A second movement could likely be made, and we can also think of a third movement that, at this time, I will keep the position for strategies in negotiations, but hopefully, a third element would be closing what we are looking for in the squad.”
