Rayadas’ ‘Quality Dropped’ in Disappointing Summer Cup Loss to Racing Louisville

CF Monterrey’s women’s team had a challenging start to the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, falling short of their expectations. Rayadas lost 3-1 to Racing Louisville FC on Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium.

The contest started well for Rayadas, who opened the scoring with a goal from Fátima Servín in the 11th minute. On the road and with a one-goal advantage, it was the perfect start, but the wheels fell off for the team midway through the first half.

Emma Sears leveled the scoring in the 36th minute as the contest went into halftime tied 1-1. Racing Louisville scored two more goals in the second half, thanks to Kayla Fischer and Ary Borges.

Rayadas forward Christina Burkenroad spoke about the loss and noted that the team came out playing as they had hoped but the squad couldn’t sustain it over 90 minutes.

“Obviously, it’s not the result we wanted,” Burkenroad said (h/t Once Diario). “In the first 25-30 minutes, we came out super strong and then the quality dropped a bit as the game went on. We’ll learn from this, you know, we’ll go back to Monterrey and watch the videos, keep training, and keep learning.”

Monterrey will have to dust themselves off as they have a league match on Tuesday against Atlas and then face Orlando Pride in their next NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup match.

“What’s next is a league match on Tuesday, so it’s a quick turnaround. We’ll keep learning and improving. Obviously, we’ll come back with a stronger plan against Orlando, which is a great team like Louisville.”
