Rodrigo Villagra was CF Monterrey’s No. 1 choice to bolster the midfield this winter transfer window. However, Rayados couldn’t work out an agreement with Club Atlético Talleres. As a result, the transfer fell through.
Monterrey quickly pivoted to Plan B and landed Jorge Rodríguez from Estudiantes de La Plata. Club president José Antonio Noriega noted the qualities the 28-year-old will bring to the table.
“It is obvious that with one player against another, there will always be better things and others that are not,” Noriega said (h/t Telediario). “In this case, talking about Corcho, I tell you that we are bringing in a player who stands out for his technique. He is a guy with excellent striking ability, excellent ball control, and, therefore, a superb long-range shot. His technique helps him connect between the lines, and he possesses a great passing ability to find his teammates.
“Moreover, as a central midfielder, he has strong game-reading skills, constantly trying to position himself well and assisting the team in being well-placed both with and without the ball. Additionally, he is a player with a lot of experience; at 28 years old, he brings a lot to the table, and his diverse skills will contribute significantly to the growth of our team.”
According to Telediario, the Argentine has a flight to Monterrey on January 1 to undergo medical and physical tests to complete his transfer to Rayados.
