The injury bug continues to bite CF Monterrey’s squad, but the latest is a significant blow. Rayados will have to do without Sergio Canales for the foreseeable future, and with the injuries to their strikers, this isn’t ideal.

According to TUDN’s Diego Armando Medina, Canales suffered a muscle injury in Saturday afternoon training. The report adds that the Spanish international could be out for at least two weeks if the preliminary medical information is confirmed.

Canales would be out against Puebla and FC Juárez. Furthermore, during the FIFA international break, he’d be out for the Clasico Regio friendly against Club Tigres in Houston, TX. The 32-year-old will not travel to Puebla, and the severity of his injury will be confirmed on Monday.

Jordi Cortizo Is ‘Happy’ for His Return to Puebla

Monterrey will look for a bounce-back performance after losing 3-0 to Tigres in the latest edition of the Clasico Regio. Puebla is last in the Liga MX table with eight points through 10 matchdays. As a result, it’s in Rayados’ best interest to secure all three points.

Nonetheless, heading to Puebla is sentimental to Jordi Cortizo, who recounted his time with the club. The 27-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and registering four assists.

“Very nice memories,” Cortizo said (h/t Telediario). “I will always be grateful to Puebla, to the institution, [and] to the fans. I had very nice moments there, and it is always great to be able to see former teammates, to have that part of coexistence, happy to have one more game, to be able to win the game, take the victory, and return with three points.

“If there are boos, I know where they come from, I know they love me, they write to me a lot, I see their messages, I have a very good relationship with the people, the truth is that we connect a lot, there is a lot of affection between the fans and me, and if there are any boos, it’s part of the fact that they miss me… I hope [laugh].”
