CF Monterrey has a contest against Club Deportivo Guadalajara on Saturday, but all the attention is on the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal tie against Inter Miami on Wednesday at Chase Stadium.

Rayados standout Maxi Meza spoke to the media on Friday, and of course, he received a question regarding the upcoming first leg next week against Lionel Messi and Co. The Argentine noted his desire to play in the match, starting with performing well against Chivas.

“Personally, I’m going to be very honest with you,” Meza said to begin his remarks (h/t ABC Deportes). “What I think is, I want to play that game (against Inter Miami), so I take it as showing the coach that I want to play that game by playing well on Saturday (against Chivas). So I think that’s how it is, earning your position game by game.

“I think we all think like that. I think we all have to think that way, try to do things well every game to have that opportunity, and who wouldn’t like to be on the field and playing? So I think that personally, see it from that side, so that is my motivation.”

Before the first leg, Inter Miami announced on Thursday that they would be without midfielder Federico Redondo. The 22-year-old suffered an injury to his left lateral collateral ligament and is expected to be sidelined for approximately eight weeks.
