Brandon Vazquez Embraces Challenge as Rogelio Funes Mori’s Successor

CF Monterrey moved on from Rogelio Funes Mori on Sunday as the club announced his exit. On the same day, the striker coming to replace him is soon-to-be-former FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez.

Upon arriving at the airport, the Mexican-American spoke to reporters and noted the scoring production he has to help fill with the departure of Funes Mori, who will be joining Pumas UNAM on a two-year contract with Rayados, reportedly receiving $3 million.

Brandon Vazquez gives first words upon arriving in Monterrey

“I am very happy to be here, very excited about this new challenge, and very enthusiastic about arriving here to make history,” Vazquez told the media (h/t Telediario). “I know it’s very big shoes to fill. It’s a huge achievement for me—an accomplishment, a dream, and to make history just like Funes Mori did.”

Vazquez is set to undergo medical and physical tests at the Femsa clinic early on Monday. Afterward, Monterrey will officially announce him as their new striker.

The Athletic reported that Monterrey and Cincinnati have agreed on a deal valued at approximately $7.5 million. The agreement includes the potential for an additional $1 million in add-ons and incorporates a sell-on clause.
