CF Monterrey decided to make a change in the striker position with the addition of Brandon Vazquez. In came the Mexican-American, and out went Rogelio Funes Mori. Rayados likely hopes the closing of a cycle and drastic change can send a message to the squad.
As the 2024 Clausura tournament gets underway, Monterrey eyes winning the league for the first time since 2019. Management views Vazquez as part of this new wave of players that can allow the club to win multiple trophies at the domestic and international levels.
Rayados wants a new identity after a new regime recently took over. The former FC Cincinnati goal-scorer could be keen on adding something new to the team. In an interview with Telediario, Vazquez revealed the mindset he intends to bring to Monterrey.
“I give my life on the pitch every time I step on it,” Vazquez said. “Every time I enter to play, I am the winner. I like to win; I don’t like to draw. Winning is the only thing on my mind in the MLS. I have already won all the trophies there are to win, so I came here to take another step in my career and continue growing as a player and person and continue winning.”
Vazquez also answered a question regarding whether he sees himself as the starting striker. If Rayados does land a player to play on the left wing this winter transfer window, he’ll be in a fierce competition battle with Germán Berterame for minutes in the striker role.
“Yes, I believe I am joining a solid team right now,” Vazquez added. “There are players that I have trained within the last few days, so the only thing I am going to do is give 100 percent every time I enter. We need to work harder and try to win with this team with what I bring to the game. I think without a problem, I could have many minutes and score many goals.”
