Esteban Andrada addressed the controversy with Nahuel Guzmán for using a laser beam against him during the Monterrey-Tigres UANL match last weekend at Estadio BBVA.
After it was revealed that Guzmán, a fellow goalkeeper, pointed a laser at him, the Rayados shot-stopper went on social media to blast the Tigres star. Andrada spoke with reporters about the situation on Tuesday, a few days after the incident.
“I was surprised,” Andrada told the media (h/t TUDN). “We’re professional colleagues, so if you enjoy provoking, own up to it. Truth be told, afterward, I was told it was him. That was just my reaction after the game, nothing more… He sent me a message, but that’s it. I hope he asks me personally, and surely I’ll accept it.”
The Mexican Football Federation’s disciplinary committee have announced that it will open an investigation into Guzmán’s handling of the situation.
As for the punishment, Andrada declined to comment on what consequences the 38-year-old should face for his actions, leaving that decision to the Liga MX and the appropriate authorities.
“I don’t know,” Andrada added. I’m not the one who decides that, who judges, so it’s up to the League, to whoever it belongs to. “After the match, I had that reaction to what happened, but then it was left there. I don’t know; I don’t get involved in those things. Let the League decide what’s best.”
