Leagues Cup: Oddsmaker Puts CF Monterrey as Favorite to Win MLS-LIGA MX Tournament

Leagues Cup 2023 gets underway on Friday in the latest installment of which league is better, LIGA MX or MLS. Nonetheless, one of the prominent questions many ask is, who’s winning this tournament?

While there are debates regarding the possible favorite to win Leagues Cup, one oddsmaker considers CF Monterrey the choice. Caliente.MX puts Rayados at +900 to win the competition (h/t Record).

Right behind Monterrey is Los Angeles Football Club at +1000, with Club Tigres and Club America having +1200 odds to win Leagues Cup. Rayados has always fared well in Concacaf-sanctioned international tournaments, so it makes sense why they’re one of the favorites.

While Fernando Ortiz’s squad is the favorite to win the tournament, they’re in a challenging group. Monterrey is in Group West 2 alongside Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC.

Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC occupy a playoff spot in the MLS Western Conference. However, Monterrey has made easy work of their opponents from MLS, but that’s in a two-leg tie. Leagues Cup 2023 is a FIFA World Cup-style group stage format.

It will be a disappointment if Monterrey doesn’t advance to the knockout stages. Should Sergio Canales play at some point, Rayados will add much-needed reinforcement to strengthen the squad.

Monterrey begins their Leagues Cup tournament on July 26 against Real Salt Lake.
