CF Monterrey will be saying goodbye to a prominent advisor to the club as Andoni Zubizarreta returns to being a top-level executive for a well-known European side.
Over the last few months, Zubizarreta has been an advisor for Monterrey. Nonetheless, that will change as Diario AS reports that with André Villas-Boas becoming FC Porto’s next president, he’s appointing the club chief as the new sporting director.
Villas-Boas became Porto’s newest president on Saturday after beating Nuno da Costa after years in office. The former goalkeeper retakes the baton as sports director, having already been in the past at Athletic Club, FC Barcelona, or Olympique de Marseille.
Zubizarreta has a new gig, and from a Rayados perspective, it will be interesting to see if they can fill that advisor role. As the summer transfer window looms and the club prepares for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Zubizarreta’s departure leaves a void in the advisory role.
It remains to be seen who will step in and how their influence will shape the team’s future.
