PSV’s Luuk de Jong Drawing Interest from a Monterrey-based Club, Report Says

CF Monterrey has two good quality strikers, Germán Berterame and Brandon Vazquez. However, could Rayados be in the market for another striker this summer transfer window?

Berterame and Vazquez might have Clausura 2024 tournaments that might perform at a high level and attract suitors from abroad.

The two aren’t strangers to the European market, as Berterame belonged to Atletico Madrid, although he never played for the club. Meanwhile, before moving to Monterrey, Vazquez had links to a move to European football in the past.

As a result, if either or both were to leave, Monterrey would need to go back into the striker market. David Faitelson from TUDN reported, citing a source, on Sunday that while on assignment in the Netherlands, a club from Monterrey approached PSV Eindhoven’s Luuk de Jong to bring him to Liga MX.

An alternative scenario that could be more plausible is that Tigres UANL is considering acquiring the 33-year-old player. Monterrey’s rival might have an eye on a post-André-Pierre Gignac squad and could turn to the veteran goal scorer.

The PSV star is under contract until 2025, so any move this summer must be a sale. Whether it’s Monterrey or Tigres, should the Dutchman decide to leave PSV in a few months, it will affect Rayados as they could have a new striker or have to prepare to gameplan against him.

Whatever happens in the Liguilla and the interest their strikers receive from abroad could determine whether Monterrey pursues a striker.
