Report: Ex-Sevilla Standout Oliver Torres, Colombian Youngster Johan Rojas to Join Monterrey

CF Monterrey’s arrivals to improve the team for the 2024 Apertura season in Liga MX are beginning to take shape. The first two players to join the squad are Johan Rojas and Óliver Torres.

The Rojas news surfaced on Thursday, with more information trickling out on Friday. According to journalist Pipe Sierra, Monterrey will pay Colombian side La Equidad $2.5 million for the 21-year-old player.

Moreover, the player will sign a four-year contract with Rayados, with La Equidad keeping 20 percent of the player’s rights so they can benefit from a potential future sale of the youngster.

Sierra finally added that Monterrey’s coaching staff wanted the player, and it seems that management delivered on this desire. Rojas has 70 appearances across all competitions for La Equidad, scoring seven goals and recording 10 assists

Another Spanish player comes to Monterrey

Rojas isn’t the only player coming aboard Rayados, as reports revealed on Friday that Torres will be joining the Mexican side. FOX Sports Mexico informs that the former Sevilla standout will sign a three-year contract as the player arrives as a free agent.

The midfielder’s official announcement and subsequent reception are expected to take place in the coming days. Torres recently underwent surgery to correct a shoulder injury that has kept him off the field since last April.

During his time at Sevilla, the 29-year-old made 201 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering 21 assists. He also won two UEFA Europa League trophies with the Spanish side in 2020 and 2023.
