Transfer Gossip: Grêmio Targets Rogelio Funes Mori for Striking Power

After a disappointing elimination from the Liguilla, CF Monterrey must now focus on making changes to its squad. The incomings and outgoings will be crucial to improving the team for the 2024 Clausura tournament.

One player who could be on the way out is Rogelio Funes Mori. The Argentine goal scorer is drawing interest from Brazil, and now could be the time when Rayados pulls the trigger on a sale.

Will Rogelio Funes Mori continue his career in Brazil?

Felipe Galindo reported on Thursday, citing a source, that there is an intermediary agent that Grêmio has authorized to ask about the situation regarding Funes Mori. Monterrey and its board are also talking with the representative and the player.

Nonetheless, nothing is closed yet. The forward, who has scored 160 goals with the Monterrey shirt, will see his contract end with Rayados in June 2024. So, at this time, he could already be talking with any team over a pre-contract and leaving as a free agent rather than the club selling him to recoup a fee.

The Brazilian club is likely targeting Funes Mori as a possible replacement for Luis Suárez, who will be playing next season with Inter Miami. Furthermore, the Uruguayan will reunite with former FC Barcelona teammates, including Lionel Messi.
