Rogelio Funes Mori bid farewell to CF Monterrey last weekend. Rayados officially announced the 32-year-old striker’s departure after an illustrious eight-year tenure. While the Argentine wasn’t ready to depart, management made their plans clear of wanting to move on.
Former Rayados manager Víctor Manuel Vucetich and player Aldo de Nigris publicly voiced their criticism of the management’s handling of Funes Mori’s treatment, who has since joined Pumas UNAM.
In a video shared on his Instagram story, de Nigris sought Vucetich’s perspective on the handling and departure of the striker.
“Sadly, once again, I didn’t like the manner [of the departure], very bad,” Vucetich said (h/t ABC Deportes). “To a player like Funes Mori, being the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, I think the treatment they gave him was very poor.”
Nonetheless, Funes Mori is now ready for the next chapter of his career. Upon arriving in Mexico City, the forward recently spoke with reporters in the Mexican capital. He shared why he decided Pumas was the right fit for his post-Rayados career.
“The sporting project,” Funes Mori said. “First, the coach, whom I have known for quite some time. The history of the club, the great players who have been here, the interest they showed in me—the truth is, that mattered most to me.”
