Duvan Vergara Departs Rayados; Rogelio Funes Mori-Pumas Transfer in Limbo – Report

Monterrey has reportedly seen its first departure for the summer as Duvan Vergara will be heading to Santos Laguna. Meanwhile, an exit for Rogelio Funes Mori to Pumas UNAM now seems bleak.

FOX Sports Mexico’s Santiago Fourcade reported on Tuesday the details of Vergara’s loan to Santos. The Colombian international is joining the Liga MX rival on a one-year loan deal and revealed that the option to buy clause is for $5 million.

Vergara played in 13 total matches during the 2022-23 season, scoring one goal and coming off a torn ligament and meniscus in his right knee that impacted his time with Monterrey.

At Santos, the 26-year-old will have an opportunity for regular playing time where he might boost his value for a second chance at Monterrey or for Rayados to recoup a fee from a possible future sale, whether it comes from Santos or elsewhere.

Rogelio Funes Mori-Pumas rumor hits a dead end?

Super Deportivo’s Cesar Luis Merlo reported on Monday that a Funes Mori transfer to Pumas is “difficult.” The Argentine wants to stay at Rayados, where he arrived in 2015, and the Monterrey club has yet to tell him anything about a possible negotiation.

Also, other aspects that make it difficult for Funes Mori, who has one more year on his contract, to go to Pumas are the price of his record and the high salary he receives at Monterrey.

The move to Mexico City made sense for the 32-year-old as it would allow him to reunite with former Rayados manager Antonio Mohamed, who coached him twice in Monterrey.

Nonetheless, barring any significant shift from Monterrey’s board, it seems Funes Mori will remain.
