Tano Ortiz Dismisses Diego Valdés Rumors; Reveals Bold Offensive Style

Monterrey officially unveiled Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz to the media on Monday. One of the questions the Argentine tactician spoke about was of course, the transfer window.

When Ortiz took the job, there was speculation over which Club América players he would want to bring over to Rayados. Diego Valdés was the name that surfaced in the rumor mill. However, Ortiz dismissed that possibility.

“Everything that is said and talked about, what has been said, is a lie, I don’t want to give specific names, but if we are going to look for a player in that position, thousands of names will come up, when thousands of names come up, confusion is generated, but Diego [Valdés] is not considered to come to Monterrey,” Ortiz told reporters at his press conference (h/t ESPN Deportes).

Tano Ortiz promises bold, attacking football at Monterrey

Although Valdés might not be coming to Rayados, that will not change the game plan that the 45-year-old has planned. Ortiz revealed that the squad will be offensive-minded, which is what many supporters want, considering the amount of money invested into the team.

“The fans are going to have to learn to suffer a little more because I really like to attack,” Ortiz continued. “With my collaborators, we have that dilemma of wanting to be balanced, but that suffering is going to be for the best because they are going to find an aggressive team.”

Ortiz will also have a new member coming into his coaching staff to help with this offensive style he wants to implement. Monterrey announced on Monday that Nico Sánchez is coming aboard as the institutional assistant.
