One mystery surrounding Brandon Vázquez’s decision to join CF Monterrey is its potential impact on his status with the United States national team. Nonetheless, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter sees the move to Rayados as positive.
Berhalter assessed this situation and referred to the Monterrey club as a “high-profile team in Mexico,” also mentioning Chivas due to Cade Cowell’s arrival at the Guadalajara-based club.
“Each player creates their path,” Berhalter said (h/t El Porvenir). “They have to assess their opportunities and decide what is best for their career. In their case, they chose to go to high-profile clubs in Mexico, and we know that they are very competitive.
“It will be a different challenge for them. We are excited to see their journey [and] support them from here. Nonetheless, it is an individual decision based on their priorities and what they want to achieve in their career.”
The Mexican-American striker joins Rayados from FC Cincinnati. With a record of 127 appearances, the 25-year-old forward has scored 28 goals and provided 12 assists for the MLS side.
As for the transfer fee, The Athletic reported that the agreement between Monterrey and Cincinnati is around $7.5 million. There’s an additional $1 million in possible add-ons and a sell-on clause included.
