Genk to Monterrey Transfer: Fabrizio Romano Reveals Gerardo Arteaga Fee

CF Monterrey will add a defender to bolster their backline this January transfer window. Mexican international Gerardo Arteaga is returning to Liga MX to join Rayados for the 2024 Clausura tournament.

Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that Monterrey will be paying Belgium side Genk €4.5 million for the 25-year-old. Romano adds that a deal should be done soon as documents are being checked.

Romano didn’t provide that information regarding the contract term. Nonetheless, the football media will likely reveal the contract length in the coming days. Canal 6 Deportes also reported, citing a source, that the player himself is very willing to join the team. As a result, it appears the interest was mutual.

Monterrey wants to provide competition for Jesus Gallardo in that position. Furthermore, Rayados manager Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz also commented on the transfer after his squad’s 2-0 win over Santos Laguna on Sunday.

“Today I can say that I am happy with the squad I have,” Ortiz told reporters (h/t ABC Deportes). “It’s a squad that is already closed with a new addition, and if you don’t know, I’ll tell you, (Gerardo) Arteaga, I think, is practically closed. Today, I am happy with the work of the management.”
