Lucas Moura Hands Rayados Transfer Blow with Free Agent Decision – Report

Monterrey will have to scratch off soon-to-be former Tottenham Hotspur forward Lucas Moura from their transfer wishlist. Rayados will have to look elsewhere to find that marquee player this summer.

Canal 6 Deportes’ Felipe Galindo reported that the Brazilian isn’t coming to Mexico. The 30-year-old declined Monterrey’s offer to leave Europe and be part of this new project under sporting president José Antonio Noriega.

Galindo adds that Plan B for the northern Mexican club is a player born in Europe. Still, no name was given by the reporter, and speculation has run wild on who that player might be.

Noriega is currently in Madrid, Spain, likely attempting to seal that star player as he begins his project with Fernando Ortiz, who he hired after sacking Víctor Manuel Vucetich.

The 2023 Liga MX Apertura season begins on July 1 for Monterrey against Atlético de San Luis. As a result, it explains why a specific part of the supporters is hitting the panic button.

Nonetheless, the season does pause after Matchday 3 as Mexican clubs will face off against MLS oppositions in the latest installment of the Leagues Cup. So the tournament does give the management time to incorporate a new player.

Still, the longer the additions take, the more the anxiety will continue to grow.
