Monterrey’s board recently went to Brazil with an idea to seal a possible signing, which many speculate is soon-to-be-former Tottenham Hotspur forward Lucas Moura. Now, the Rayados executives are heading to Europe.
Canal 6 Deportes’ Felipe Galindo reported on Thursday, citing a source, that Monterrey’s sports director, Héctor Lara, will leave the club’s preseason camp at Riviera Maya to fly to Madrid.
Then, Lara will fly to London and finally to Portugal, where he will also meet with José Antonio Noriega, sports president of Rayados.
The trip to Europe will be to secure a player, but Galindo says it’s Plan B, and there’s no further information on whether this is another recruitment or a backup plan in case the rumored interest in Moura falls through ahead of the 2023 Liga MX Apertura season.
Futvox’s Ignacio Suarez revealed on Wednesday that one name that could exit is striker Rodrigo Aguirre. The journalist noted that neither personal nor club terms are signed, but Deportivo Toluca is interested in the Uruguayan.
Aguirre scored eight goals in 37 appearances for Monterrey during the 2022-23 season. If Toluca were to offer a reasonable bid, it will be interesting to see if the Liga MX side would take the fee.
Rayados currently has Germán Berterame and Rogelio Funes Mori in the striker position and occupying a foreign spot. Perhaps Monterrey could be open to offloading one of the three strikers and it could be Aguirre.
