Maxi Meza Opens Up About Rayados Future, Celso Ortíz Nears Extension

Maxi Meza has an uncertain future at Monterrey, considering his contract expires on December 30. As a result, Rayados management has to decide whether the club wants to keep the Argentine.

Amid the rumors, Meza clarified that he wants to continue at the club but has yet to speak to the board about his future.

“I have a contract with the club until December, so nothing; excited again to meet the entire coaching staff,” Meza told reporters Monday (h/t Cancha). “We are as a group and as a team with the desire to give everything this semester to try to meet the objectives that we stopped seeing, last semester the main objective was to be champion and we did not achieve it, so the demand is going to be double and we have to be prepared for that.

“My desire is to continue achieving important things, to continue winning titles, which is what leaves you in the history of the club, so I try to continue achieving things and that is the fundamental thing and what remains of the contract, to try to see with the leaders the best for the club and for me.”

Recently, the 30-year-old met with his representative to analyze the future, considering he still needs to reach an agreement with Monterrey over a contract extension.

If Rayados decide it’s time to move on, these next few weeks will be critical as they’ll look to recoup whatever fee they can rather than lose the player as a free agent.

Is Rayados on the verge of extending Celso Ortíz?

Celso Ortíz’s contract expires on June 30, but it seems the midfielder will continue with the Mexican club and not explore free agency.

Ortíz spoke with Canal 6 Deportes’ Felipe Galindo and noted that they’re about to reach an agreement for which the Paraguayan will stay with Monterrey for another season.

“The important thing is the club, so we are about to reach a good point,” Ortíz said. “The truth is that regardless of whether I stay or not, the most important thing for me is the club.

“Yes, of course (if you want to stay); like any player who would like to stay in an institution, how is it? Personally, I want to continue, so we wait to see what happens.”

Furthermore, Galindo reported, citing a source, Ortíz will also receive the post as the captain of Fernando Ortiz’s squad as the Argentine likes Ortiz’s leadership in the dressing room.
