Monterrey’s Brandon Vazquez Claims US Football Surpassing Mexico Right Now

This week has seen the football media in Mexico dissect what the Mexican Football Federation and Liga MX have done wrong after El Tri’s 2-0 loss to the United States in last Sunday’s Concacaf Nations League final loss.

CF Monterrey striker Brandon Vazquez, who is Mexican-American and chose to represent the United States, spoke with TUDN and noted that, based on the results, he sees the Americans as having already surpassed the Mexicans.

“At the moment, considering the results and how it’s been done, I believe that currently [the United States], is in a better position [than Mexico],” Vazquez told TUDN.

Brandon Vazquez: Nice to see MLS teams sending players to Europe

Moreover, the 25-year-old emphasized the advantage of American players gaining exposure in Europe. He highlighted the role of MLS in exporting young American talent to Europe, a factor that he believes is instrumental in the United States’ potential for growth.

“I believe being in Europe has a significant impact on American players who are there,” Vazquez added. “The MLS teams sending players to Europe are pushing them to continue growing, which is also very good for the future of the sport in the United States. And we’re already seeing the results of that. So, it’s really nice to see, honestly.”

The FMF and Liga MX will have to make significant changes if they want to catch up to where the United States is when it comes to producing young talent that’s ready to compete at a high level.
