Monterrey Makes Key Decisions on Tano Ortiz and Maxi Meza Ahead of Summer Window

CF Monterrey lost in the Liga MX Clausura 2024 semifinal to Cruz Azul on Sunday, and news about the future of some club members began to surface on Monday.

The first piece of news was about Maxi Meza’s future, whose contract expires in June. Despite the Argentine’s polarizing figure, it seems Meza will remain with the club past the summer transfer window.

RG La Deportiva’s Santiago Fourcade reports that the 31-year-old will stay with the club until December. Whether he leaves as a free agent or he extends and is sold remains to be seen.

Transfer window specialist César Luis Merlo also reported on Monday that Fernando “Tano” Ortiz will remain as Monterrey manager heading into the Liga MX Apertura 2024 season.

Merlo adds that the club’s board is backing the Argentine coach, and it’s likely that he will lead the team into the 2025 Club World Cup. It will be interesting to see what moves Monterrey makes after going trophyless for the 2023-24 season.
