After the arrival of Jorge Rodríguez on Tuesday, CF Monterrey now has their newest striker in Brandon Vazquez. The Mexican-American goal scorer arrives at Rayados from FC Cincinnati, where he appeared in 127 MLS matches.
On Wednesday, The Athletic, citing sources, reported that the agreement between Monterrey and Cincinnati is set at around $7.5 million, with an additional $1 million possible in add-ons and a sell-on clause included.
In the past two MLS regular seasons and playoffs, the 25-year-old striker netted an impressive total of 28 goals and provided 12 assists while playing for FC Cincinnati. His stellar performance played a pivotal role in propelling the club from last place to clinching the Supporters’ Shield.
Before his time with Cincinnati, Vazquez spent his initial three MLS seasons with Atlanta United. However, in 2020, he moved to FC Cincinnati, and in 2022, he truly made his mark with a standout season, scoring an impressive 18 goals.
Rayados did face competition for Vazquez. The Athletic adds that Middlesbrough, from the English Championship, actively submitted a bid for a permanent deal to secure the striker.
Meanwhile, Brentford, Hoffenheim, and Borussia Monchengladbach have also shown interest but have not made offers during this winter transfer window.
