Rogelio Funes Mori departed Monterrey on Monday to conclude his tenure with Rayados. On Sunday, the club announced that the Argentine striker was moving on and would now join Pumas UNAM.
Over the last few days, the 32-year-old spoke about what playing for Monterrey has meant for his career. Additionally, he did peel back some emotions, noting that he disagreed with his exit.
Nonetheless, upon arriving in Mexico City, the forward spoke with reporters in the Mexican capital and shared why he decided Pumas was the right fit for his post-Rayados career.
“The sporting project,” Funes Mori said (h/t Telediario). “First, the coach, whom I have known for quite some time. The history of the club, the great players who have been here, the interest they showed in me—the truth is, that mattered most to me.”
Additionally, Funes Mori revealed that he had no desire to leave Mexico despite the reported interest from Brazilian club Grêmio.
“I honestly did not want to leave the country,” Funes Mori added. “I wanted to stay here in Mexico, which is a great opportunity. It is very nice, and I am ready.”
