On Monday, Rogelio Funes Mori left the city of Monterrey to close his chapter with Rayados. The club announced on Sunday that the Argentine was departing to join Pumas UNAM.
Funes Mori’s contract with the club would have expired in June, but both sides decided to end the tenure during the winter transfer window. As the 32-year-old striker was at the airport, he spoke with reporters.
CF Monterrey’s all-time leading goal scorer reiterated that he did not like the way the club’s leadership handled my departure from the team and that the decision to move to another team was due to the management.
“I think it was the best,” Funes Mori told reporters (h/t Telediario). “I think it’s done now. Obviously, I made this decision based on the management; I believe they have already made it clear to me that my future would not be here.
“So, I think I made the best decision, and I am leaving happy [and] content with everything I did [and] everything I achieved in a great institution that gave me everything, that gave everything to my family. So, I am very happy.”
Funes Mori will reportedly sign a two-year contract with Pumas and continue his career in Liga MX rather than going abroad.
