It’s the end of an era at CF Monterrey, as Rogelio Funes Mori is leaving the club this winter transfer window. The Argentine’s departure signals the end of an eight-year tenure with Rayados.
Telediario reported on Friday, citing sources, that Funes Mori will leave Monterrey to join Pumas UNAM for the 2024 Apertura season. Furthermore, Felipe Galindo adds that the 32-year-old will sign a two-year contract with the Mexican side. No financial details are out yet.
Funes Mori is leaving as the top scorer for Monterrey after scoring 160 goals in 304 matches, something that not even Humberto Suazo had achieved with the Rayados jersey.
Since he arrived in Mexico, he has been a consistent goal-scorer in tournaments but has yet to clinch the goal-scoring title in Liga MX.
In previous stages, Funes Mori was irreplaceable at Monterrey. However, that changed after Fernando Ortiz took over the coaching position, coupled with the changes the sports president, José Antonio Noriega, wants to implement.
Rayados has already attempted to improve the striker position with the pending arrival of Brandon Vazquez from FC Cincinnati.
