Monterrey made the shocking decision to sack Víctor Manuel Vucetich after securing 40 points in the 2023 Clausura season. However, the 67-year-old couldn’t get Rayados past the semifinals, losing to rival Tigres UNAL.
It’s been a couple of weeks since Monterrey fired Vucetich. He opened up to ABC Deportes about what happened, leading to his dismissal. Vucetich noted that leaving Rayados after this past season wasn’t what he thought would happen.
“These are normal things that happen, even though sometimes you don’t expect it, they are normal things and that’s it, we move forward,” Vucetich told the Mexican media outlet.
Furthermore, he spoke on whether the club put a lot of importance on one contest that eventually tilted the decision leading to his firing.
“Those are the results that occur or do not occur; a game is valued and not everything that was done, things change there,” Vucetich continued. “The truth is that [the players] broke their souls there if I have absolutely nothing to say, simply thanks to all of them; the truth is, they were up to the task both in good times and in bad.”
Monterrey wasted little time finding Vucetich’s replacement as they hired former Club América boss Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz.
