Esteban Andrada Error Didn’t Cost Rayados vs. Cruz Azul? Stat Highlights Funes Mori’s Struggles

CF Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada can make mistakes that have fans scratching their heads, to put it lightly. Those types of mishaps reared their ugly head in the 2-1 loss to Cruz Azul on Saturday at Estadio BBVA.

In the opening goal by Diber Cambindo, the Colombian’s shot went through the legs of Andrada. The mistake of the ball going through the five-hole was, again, the frustrating side that the Argentine has.

Nonetheless, Rayados manager Fernando Ortiz insisted that Andada’s mistake was not what cost his team the game.

“I am not one to talk about personal errors,” Ortiz told reporters Sunday (h/t Diario AS). “If the error was not Andrada’s, it would have been another. The error was a result of many things. It was notable, yes, but it was part of a wider problem. I don’t like to make excuses. When the team plays well, it’s the players’ merit, and when it plays badly, I’m responsible.”

The 32-year-old made up for it by saving a goal from Uriel Antuna’s shot. Furthermore, Andrada initiated the goal by Maxi Meza after the goalkeeper put the ball in play. So the former Boca Juniors man can taketh and giveth.

Stat shows the struggles of Rogelio Funes Mori

Monterrey’s striker position has been devastated by injuries to Germán Berterame, who could be out for the entire tournament. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Aguirre is out with an injury and even left a training session last week.

As a result, the position falls on Funes Mori, and the 32-year-old is struggling to score goals. A stat showed that the Rayados striker had only scored one goal in the last 703 minutes.

With the summer transfer window open until Sept. 13, Monterrey has to consider pursuing a striker, especially if Berterame is gone until the Clausura tournament. It could be a long Apertura tournament if the front office decides against adding another goal-scorer.
